Print Media and Digital Media - The debate continues....

With enormous expansion of technology and the easy internet access, like its peer domains, media has also expanded its hands embracing the online or digital platform, forcing its conventional print platform to take a back seat. It would be worth a debate on digital media vs. print media, as according to recent studies, it is reported that nearly 121 million of Indian population are using internet on daily basis and are showing more interest in enormous expansion of digital media. The report also emphasizes on the fact that the percentage of population using the digital medium has accelerated considerably in small towns/cities, giving the metros a close and tough competition. Another fact we can’t ignore is the digital media is getting more fame among the youth as compared to the senior citizens in India.

It won’t be wrong, if we comment on the fact that the abundant use of smart phones to remain connected to the social media as well as social networking sites, has acted as a catalyst to the present scenario. The inquisitiveness of the crowd for getting an update on any news has been satisfied by the digital platform.  “You name it…and get it”, has become the moral tag line of almost all the online publishing houses. It has become more convenient to read news online, as you don’t need to prepare a separate rack for accumulating those bunches and call a scrap dealer to empty those once in a week. It definitely saves your time and energy. It is just a click away instead, free of cost (apart from the internet charges applicable) and gives you a variety of your choice at a time and most importantly, it’s never ending. One can browse through a numerous online news sites and social networks that provide news updates of your choice.

So, is the digital media indirectly making a way to grab the whole attention and concentration of the fellow patrons of conventional print media? Well…on a true note indeed it has been able to satisfy the hunger of news and information seeking people anytime and every time, anywhere and everywhere. But just imagine, to be served a cup of tea, early in the morning with a TABLET or a LAPTOP or a SMART PHONE and get instructed to browse through the news online!!!! Honestly speaking, sipping a cup of tea every morning, with a NEWSPAPER in hand till date is considered to be a great combination.

In a nutshell, both the media digital and print has its own charm and importance, serving for a common purpose. Although one might be more popular than the other and may have different reader base but still both the media synchronizes their existence.

Tips for a Healthy, Happy and Well balanced Lifestyle in a Busy Professional Schedule…..

Nowadays, it has been really tough for a working professional, to lead a healthy lifestyle. Many people are compelled to mould their way of living unwillingly, as and when their professional life raises a demand .With increasing demand for technological advancements in global market, it has left us with hardly any differences between man and a machine. But, as we all know that for a perfect functioning of a machine, it needs to get serviced properly and in regular interval of time, it is same in the case of human being. But somehow with our busy professional schedule we tend to forget or ignore this hard hitting fact. J

Here are some tips for all “human machines”, to get their self servicing done, to lead a healthy, happy and well-balanced lifestyle:

Gulp down a glass of water after you get up in the morning: Drink a glassful of water as the first thing after you get up from sleep early in the morning or in the afternoon as per your work schedule. It increases the blood circulation and provides the oxygen in blood. It also increases the metabolism rate and keeps us healthy by improving our excretory system and eliminates constipation.

Never skip your breakfast: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You should Break-your-Fast after spending long hours without food while sleeping and need to have something healthy for a perfect and energetic start of the day. It will increase your metabolic rate. A healthy breakfast helps us to perform better in our respective field of work. Skipping of breakfast leads to starvation which means, staying hungry on the start of the day, which will make you irritable and less attentive and thus may make you non performing element. J

Keep munching something healthy every 2 hours: Healthy snacking is very important for a healthy living. The food to be consumed every 2 hours should be high with nutrients. Consider fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts (almonds, resins, apricot), Oats, Yogurt etc. The main importance of healthy snacking every two-hour is, it helps to improve your metabolism and help to control your blood sugar level and thus helps you to stay fit and healthy.

Avoid Junk Food: Say big no-no to junk food like pizzas, burgers, cold drinks etc. They may satisfy your taste buds and may lure you with appearances as well, but stay away from them as they are high in calories and fats, which will in turn increase blood pressure and shows you the path of obesity.

Take a walk in every 30 minutes: Don’t sit and work at a place for a very long time, as your work may get monotonous at certain time. Take a walk in every 30 minutes. This will keep your muscles working. It also refreshes your mind. Now get back to work quickly. J

Drink plenty of water through out the day: Make it a habit of drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day. It helps you to loose weight, as it helps you to feel full and thus prevents you from over eating. It also shoots up your metabolism and increases blood circulation. It prevents from getting dehydrated.

Exercise regularly: Try to take out at least 30 minutes from your busy schedule and exercise regularly. But don’t be your own trainer until & unless you have enough idea about the need of your body. Preferably consult a trainer before starting off with your exercise routine.

Spend some quality time with family: No matter how busy we are, spending quality family time must not disappear. Quality time is spent focusing attention on the other person and sharing thoughts and feelings. Try to have at least one meal with your family everyday. It helps you to stay connected with your family on your entire busy week.

Friends are the biggest stress busters: Arrange a get-together with friends. It will boost your energy level. It is proven that the friends have been the real stress busters. They are someone who can distress you and lift your mood instantaneously. While writing this I am missing my friends too. J

Spend some “My” time: Invest some time for yourself and do your favorite thing.  Do not allow anybody to intervene in your own “MY” time. J

Avoid using office laptop during weekends: It would have been a blessing if we would have had the opportunity to lock the office laptop and misplace the key during weekends. J But at least we can try to minimize its usage during the weekends.

Be a better planner: Plan out your day-to-day activity well in advance. This will help you to be organized at work and in your life. Planning is essential to avoid last minute hotchpotch.

I have tried all these things personally and believe you me it has really helped me a lot to deal with the stressful life. Hope these tips will help you too. All the best. Happy working. J

To Ms. D'souza ....with love

As I look back to my childhood, the first secured place for me, apart from my home, was an institution named "school", which somehow happened to be my "second home”. I fairly remember of going to school with my mother and after entering the school premises,  I used to wait to see a glance of a lady who used to welcome all the kids into the class-room in the same way as my mother used to do when I was back from school....The only difference was, my mother used to give me a warm hug  when I ran towards her after returning from school, but, the lady in the school would simply say "Good Morning" to all of us and couldn't embrace each of us as we were thirty in numbers...To my utter surprise, she used to remember each of ours name!!!!! She was my first school teacher Ms. D'souza. I did never realize when she had become the main motivation for me to go to school. I remember the day when I was promoted to the next standard and I was very much unhappy of the fact that I was about to leave Ms.D'souza and go to some other class to see my new teacher.

Surprisingly, I got the privilege to meet Ms.D'souza once-in-a-while as my new class was just next to hers, and I was amazed to realize that she still remembered my name!!!!! As time passed by, slowly but steadily I kept on getting promotion to next class...and to next class....and to next class....and our interaction somehow minimized. We only met on Teacher’s Day, on her birthday (which I till date remember). Somehow, I could never forget to wish her on her birthday. Till date, I remember the pretty smile and the blush on her face when I used to wish or greet her. On her each and every birthday, after wishing her, tears rolled down her eyes. She would reply “Thanks a lot my child. God bless you.”

Whenever I used to get a glance of her on one of those odd days, she used to look at me and give away an appreciable and affectionate nod. Over the past years and at that time also, she maintained the same pretty smile on her face. What used to attract me the most was her calm and composed personality. Nowadays, I feel that the task she was doing was not at all easy, in fact it may have been difficult sometimes for her to handle a class of unmanageable, irritable creatures, as we find it difficult to handle a single creature of that kind at home, today. At times, it was so nice to listen to her narrating old stories in our early morning assembly prayer hall.

Life keeps moving on.When I was in 10th standard and was very busy in preparing for my board exams, our principal walked-in into our classroom. I couldn’t believe what she said. The school was supposed to be closed on the next day as Ms D’souza was no more!!!!!!!!!!

Our principal called out my name and handed me a big box which was addressed to me with lots of love and affection and also an envelope which had my name written on it. With trembling hands, somehow I managed to open the box….It was filled with many gifts…..each of those was tagged with my name. Some stated “On your birthday with lots of love and blessings”….some stated “On your success with lots of love”. I couldn’t believe, what I was ought to believe that my favorite teacher, my idol, my inspiration knew about me so much. She kept complete track of my success and to my sheer surprise she wanted this to be confidential and requested our principal to tell me when it was right time. And according to her right time was…….

There was more to go. The envelope was yet to get opened. It was the handwriting which I was very familiar with. What was stated inside was:

“My dear child,

When you will get to read this letter, I will not be there with you. All I wanted to say is, a billion thanks to you, as you reminded me of Maria my only daughter, whom God took away from me, when she was only sixteen... But God was kind enough to give me many Maria’s around me. But my dear child you happened to be special from all of them. I can’t ignore the fact that just like Maria you never forgot my birthdays. The simple gesture you showed meant a lot to me.

Those were enough reason for me to love you as I used to love Maria. I couldn’t restrict myself from knowing about you, from getting a duplicate marks-card for each of your examination results, from buying gift for you on your birthday, for buying return gifts for each of your presents given to me and loving you from the bottom of my heart.

My child, I apologize to you for virtually including you into my family with my other two sons. My blessings will always be there with you.

                                                                                 God bless you.
                                                                                    With love,
                                                                                                         Annie D’souza.

That day after returning at home, I couldn’t express myself to anybody, not even to my mother. I silently kept all her gifts given to me in a separate closet. I could now very well sum up all her reactions on each of my simple actions.

Many years have passed. Till date I couldn’t refrain myself to wish Ms. D’souza on her birthday, greet her on teachers day and to visit her grave on her death anniversary. I know wherever you are Ms. D’souza, you will always there with me and shower your blessings upon me.

Thank you God for making me able to get such an unconditional love…..Till date….

When you plan to take a public transport in Pune

Early in the morning while you wake up,get ready for work... or you plan to hang out with your friends somewhere..... or you must reach on time otherwise you might miss the beginning of the movie ....or you wanna go for shopping and suddenly you realise that today you have no option other than taking a public transport ..... it may seem very obvious to the people staying in metro cities and its nothing to worry about because in a city like Pune with such cosmo crowd around, it should be very simple and easy. But the experience and the situation over here is somewhat different.

You step out from your place and reach to the nearby Auto-rickshaw stand and ask the driver wheteher he will go to the particular place. You may have to face follwing reactions:)

1. First and foremost to them every place is unknown and they will need a proper decsription of the place...E.g - which area, which building? how far from the particular landmark etc. etc. Now after explaing so much normal human mind gets ready to sit in the rickshaw and the reaction comes from the other side is " Madam udhar jayenga lekin half- return mangta". Now the concept of HALF RETURN is, you will have to pay the full amount whatever the metre reading shows and a half of it extra. suppose it is Rs.100 in the metre reading you will have to pay Rs. 150. If you ask the reason for this will be "madam woh city ke bahar hai na..... udhar se passenger nahin milta wapas aane ko".

2. They may just ignore your query, but if you plead them they might consider your request.

3. They will agree to take you to your destination and once you reach there they will suddenly demand some money extra.Dont you dare ask them the reason...and if you do so the answer may come as" KYA MADAM KITNA DOOR LEKEAAYE, AISA THA TO PEHLE BOLNA THA NA... MAIN NAHI AATA.................."

After facing the above situations you might give up the idea of taking a rickshaw and you may think and plan to take a bus instead...:)Now let me assure, you are going to commit the second biggest mistake of your life......anyways you somehow manage to go to the bus stop and wait for the particular bus which you know will take you to your destination.. Situation you will have to face are:

1. After waiting for long you finally see your bus approaching and you get prepared to board it..but it might just not stop there and go, throwing you the challenge "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN". And after enquirng about the next bus you come to know that its half an hour later.

2. The bus stops and you try to board it....now if its your first time you will have to be very carefull coz people out here have a tendency to board a bus as if its their lifetime opportunity to grab a million rupee which is kept inside the bus.

3. Somehow you manage to board the bus, no matter if you are standing in the staircase or you are hanging like a bat the conductor will start shouting from inside for ticket once, twice, thrice untill and unless you give him the money..

4. If you are a lady passenger, you might think that you are going to get the opportunity to sit in the ladies seats :) sorry my friend....its impossible since you will find more male members sitting out there.and will just ignore your presence even if you give a meaningful eye towards them....

5. You will have to keep on moving forward because the conductor might scream to your ears in local language" pudhe sarka" which means" "keep moving forward".

Friends didnt want to demoralize anybody those who are taking public transport regularly like me. If you dont have a vehicle of your own... simply rely on our public transport. But also think about gettin your own vehicle ASAP.
